The City of Pittsburgh has provided permits to Pittsburgh Regional Transit and its contractor, Independence Excavating, to continue utility work, sidewalk reconstruction, and accessibility upgrade efforts on Fifth Avenue in the Uptown and Oakland neighborhoods of Pittsburgh.
The ongoing construction work will require additional lane closures, shifting traffic, and adjustments to existing bus stops on Fifth Avenue between Kirkpatrick Street and Diamond Street.
Beginning June 17, 2026, at approximately 7:00 AM the stop located at Fifth Avenue at Wyandotte Street (Stop ID 3149) will revert back to its original stop location of Fifth Avenue at Wyandotte nearside. The below stops are still either moved or discontinued through the end of June beginning of July. This detour notice will supersede detour #26-138 effective immediately and detour #26-138 will be rescinded.
The work will require temporary adjustments to the following bus stops:
*Fifth Avenue at Kirkpatrick Street (Farside) (Stop ID 18164) will shift to the nearside of the intersection.
*Fifth Avenue opposite Seneca Street (Stop ID 3148) will be closed.
*Fifth Avenue opposite Gist Street (Stop ID 3150) will be closed.
*Fifth Ave at Dinwiddie Street (Stop ID 3151) will shift to the farside of the intersection.
*Fifth Avenue opposite Van Braam Street (Stop ID 3152) will be closed.
*Fifth Ave at Pride Street (Stop ID 3154) will shift to the farside of the intersection.
Bus stops within the work zone which are not listed above will remain at their current locations.
Start: 06/17/2026 — End: 06/17/2046
Standing Detour - Emergency Closures Of Homestead Grays Bridge
At times, due to major automobile accidents, inclement weather (primarily snow or ice) or other emergency situations, police, fire and/or other emergency groups from the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Homestead or West Homestead Boroughs may for a short period of time elect from a safety perspective to shut down the Homestead Grays Bridge and the Browns Hill Road approach entirely until the situation at hand is rectified.
As necessary, the bridge could be closed entirely, or a portion of either the upper section between the Brown's Hill Road approach and the Fifth Avenue Bridge Ramps, or the lower section between the Fifth Avenue Bridge Ramps and East & West Eighth Avenues (SR 837).
A closure of the upper section of the bridge will result in the same detours as a total closure. A closure of the lower section of the bridge may result in different detour possibilities as noted.
Start: 01/01/2026 — End: 12/31/2026
