This routing provides an alternative for scheduled bus services along Washington Boulevard in the event of an extreme weather situation that provides heavy downpours of rain and flash flooding along Washington Boulevard.
Due to a similar situation in 2011, The City of Pittsburgh and other entities have installed a security and gate system at each end of the Boulevard (Negley Run, Allegheny River Boulevard) that will close same to motor vehicles under conditions noted.
The detour will be activated as needed by Pittsburgh Regional Transit personnel or outside agencies (police, emergency services, fire). Regular route will resume when the situation has been corrected.
