Standing Detour - Emergency Closures Of Homestead Grays Bridge
At times, due to major automobile accidents, inclement weather (primarily snow or ice) or other emergency situations, police, fire and/or other emergency groups from the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Homestead or West Homestead Boroughs may for a short period of time elect from a safety perspective to shut down the Homestead Grays Bridge and the Browns Hill Road approach entirely until the situation at hand is rectified.
As necessary, the bridge could be closed entirely, or a portion of either the upper section between the Brown's Hill Road approach and the Fifth Avenue Bridge Ramps, or the lower section between the Fifth Avenue Bridge Ramps and East & West Eighth Avenues (SR 837).
A closure of the upper section of the bridge will result in the same detours as a total closure. A closure of the lower section of the bridge may result in different detour possibilities as noted.
Start: 01/01/2026 — End: 12/31/2026
As necessary, when Amity Street is fully closed by railroads called CSX Transportation (single track across Amity Street) or Norfolk-Southern Railroad (3 tracks across Amity Street), or by the Borough of Homestead for planned or unplanned work, blocked grade crossings or train emergencies, the following detour must be initiated for each route. In the event of planned long term grade crossing work by either or both railroads, separate detours will be provided. In the event of a partial (directional) closure by any entity, a separate detour will be provided.
Start: 01/01/2026 — End: 12/31/2026
Standing Detour - Emergency Closure Of Rankin Bridge
As necessary, during emergencies such as vehicular accidents or extreme ice or snow conditions on the Rankin Bridge, emergency or maintenance crews from Allegheny County or local municipalities (Whitaker, Rankin or Braddock Boroughs) may opt to close the Rankin Bridge until the situation is rectified. If such conditions and situations occur, once closed, this detour will be activated until the bridge has re-opened. Planned or long term construction closures will be provided as necessary in separate detours.
Start: 01/01/2026 — End: 12/31/2026
As necessary, during emergencies such as vehicular accidents or extreme ice, snow or flooding conditions, or short term major repairs after such incidents on the McKeesport-Duquesne (Riverton) Bridge, emergency or maintenance crews from Allegheny County, PennDOT or local municipalities (Duquesne, McKeesport) may opt to close the bridge or associated ramps until the situation is rectified. If such conditions and situations occur, once closed, this detour will be activated until the bridge has re-opened. Planned or long term construction closures will be provided as necessary in separate detours at those times.
Start: 01/01/2026 — End: 12/31/2026
