PRT Opens Formal Public Comment on Proposed Final Bus Line Refresh Network

PITTSBURGH, PA – Pittsburgh Regional Transit today released details of its proposed final Bus Line Refresh network, beginning a formal public comment period on a plan that would provide more frequent service, expand seven-day service, and create new connections across the region.
The public can review the proposed network at buslinerefresh.com and provide comments through September 30.
The proposed final network is the result of nearly three years of planning, analysis, public engagement, and more than 20,000 comments. It would improve service quality, prioritize equitable investment, and expand connections while remaining within PRT’s existing budget.
Compared with the current bus network, the proposed final network would:
* Provide more than 500,000 residents with access to bus stops offering service every 30 minutes or better — a 15% improvement.
* Provide 191,000 residents in equity neighborhoods with access to bus stops offering service every 30 minutes or better — a 25% improvement.
* Bring service every 30 minutes or better to nearly 370,000 job locations, an increase of nearly 25,000 jobs.
* Increase service by 13% on Saturdays and 14% on Sundays.
* Add 41 new direct connections between neighborhoods and destinations.
* Maintain fixed-route service within a quarter mile of 99.4% of current PRT riders.
“Bus Line Refresh represents a key part of PRT’s commitment to make our bus network more useful for our existing riders and more accessible to more people so we can attract new riders,” said PRT CEO Katharine Kelleman. “We’ve spent nearly three years listening to our riders, analyzing our network, and working to develop a bus system that better connects people to the places they need to go.”
The public comment period runs from August 17 through September 30. All comments received during the public comment period will be reported to the PRT Board for consideration. The Board is expected to make a final decision on whether to adopt the new network in November. If approved, PRT would implement the changes in the latter half of 2027.
