Pittsburgh Regional Transit is governed by an 11-member Board of volunteers appointed by state and local elected officials. Four members are appointed by the Allegheny County executive; two members are appointed by the Allegheny County executive with County Council approval; and one member each is appointed by: the governor of Pennsylvania; the President Pro Tempore of the Senate; the Senate Minority Leader; the Speaker of the House of Representatives; the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.
The Board establishes policies and provides strategic oversight for the agency, and makes key decisions by adopting operating and capital budgets and engaging with stakeholders.
