About Us

Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) connects people to opportunity — every day, across our region. We’re more than buses, light rail cars, inclines and paratransit vans. We’re neighbors, service workers, students, healthcare staff, small-business customers and visitors who rely on safe, affordable, and dependable transportation to get where life takes them.

At Pittsburgh Regional Transit, every trip matters. Thank you for riding with us, for partnering with us, and for helping build a stronger, more connected Pittsburgh.

Advance our region by investing in our communities and connecting people in a safe, equitable and reliable manner.

Be our region’s transportation mode of choice by delivering an innovative network that is clean, sustainable, and equitable; a network that enables individuals, businesses, and economies to thrive.

PRT operates a regional network of bus routes, light rail (“the T”), inclines, and paratransit services that move people across neighborhoods, job centers, campuses and cultural districts. We provide:

  • Frequent local and express bus service connecting communities across Allegheny County and beyond

  • Light rail service linking core neighborhoods and downtown destinations

  • Incline service that preserves historic transportation and provides vital hilltop connections

  • Paratransit and reduced-fare programs that ensure mobility for riders with disabilities and older adults

Our team plans, operates and maintains the system 365 days a year so people can get to work, school, medical appointments and the things that matter.

Safety first. We prioritize the safety of riders, employees and the communities we serve through training, smart investment and continuous improvement.

Equity and access. Transportation is essential infrastructure. We work to remove barriers and expand access for people of all incomes and abilities.

Reliability. On-time service matters. We focus on keeping service dependable so people can count on public transit.

Sustainability. Investing in efficient, lower-emission transit is an investment in a healthier region and future.

Stewardship. We manage public resources responsibly and seek partnerships that strengthen service and create value for taxpayers and riders.

PRT is an engine of opportunity for the region — supporting jobs, enabling access to education and healthcare, and helping local businesses thrive. We partner with local governments, employers, universities and community organizations to design service that meets real needs and advances shared goals.

We are committed to accessible transit for everyone. Our services comply with ADA guidelines and include features such as priority seating, wheelchair-accessible vehicles, paratransit options and reduced-fare programs for eligible riders. If you need assistance planning a trip or learning about eligibility for reduced fares or paratransit, our customer service team is here to help.

From front-line operators to maintenance crews and planners, PRT staff train and work every day to deliver a safe, courteous and comfortable experience. We welcome rider feedback and use it to improve service, schedules and station amenities.

PRT’s work is guided by an 11-member Board and Leadership Team focused on long-term planning, financial sustainability, and mission-driven service delivery. Katharine Kelleman serves as Chief Executive Officer, leading efforts to strengthen service, engage the community, and modernize our system for the future.

Whether you ride regularly, occasionally, or are considering a career in transit, there are many ways to get involved:

Port Authority of Allegheny County d/b/a Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) launched its first-ever comprehensive strategic plan in 2022, marking a major milestone in its long-term vision for regional mobility.

In the fall of 2024, PRT published its inaugural Strategic Plan Annual Report, highlighting the agency’s progress and achievements. As part of best practices in strategic planning, agency leaders used this opportunity to revisit and re-evaluate the original strategy. Based on the substantial progress to date, PRT recognized the need to begin developing a new strategic plan to guide the next phase of growth and innovation.

PRT’s Strategic Plan is designed to articulate the agency’s strategic direction, communicate clear goals and objectives, and guide organizational decision-making. It also serves to provide riders and stakeholders with valuable insight into PRT’s priorities. While this plan emphasizes management activities and internal processes, it does not replace or override any Board-adopted or other formal agency transit development plans or planning efforts.
