Paving for The University Line Will Continue in Uptown and Oakland Next Week
PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) will continue roadway restoration work for the University Line bus rapid transit project next week, with milling and paving operations on Fifth Avenue between Craft Avenue and Kirkpatrick Street near the Birmingham Bridge beginning Monday, October 26.
Motorists should expect changing traffic patterns throughout the week as crews complete the work. Kirkpatrick Street will be closed at Fifth Avenue on Monday and Tuesday, with intermittent closures possible for the remainder of the week between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Additionally the westbound Boulevard of the Allies on-ramp from Fifth Avenue will close for up to two hours on Friday, October 30, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to accommodate milling and paving. Traffic on Fifth Avenue will shift between the left and right lanes as work progresses. One travel lane will remain open throughout construction.
Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra travel time and use caution in the zone.
Bus stops will remain in service during construction, but will be unable to pull up to the sidewalk so riders will need to board and exit at street level. PRT staff and flaggers will be on-site to assist.
All work is weather-dependent and subject to change. Paving on Fifth Avenue in Oakland is expected to continue through the end of November.
These improvements are part of Phase II of the University Line project, which will strengthen connections between Downtown, Uptown, and Oakland while improving the overall travel experience for riders, pedestrians, and cyclists.
