Downtown Rail Station Escalator Replacement Project

PRT replaced nine escalators at three downtown light rail stations to improve reliability, performance and safety for riders.

The project included escalator replacements at Wood Street, Steel Plaza and First Avenue stations. All nine escalators associated with the project were returned to service following construction.

The project was completed in late 2024 and cost approximately $13.5 million.

The new escalators provide improved reliability, performance and safety at three key downtown light rail stations.

Throughout construction, PRT maintained access to the stations using stairs and elevators, with ADA access maintained to the platforms.

Project Locations

Wood Street Station

Four escalators were replaced at Wood Street Station, including escalators serving the inbound and outbound platforms and mezzanine areas.

Steel Plaza Station

Four escalators were replaced at Steel Plaza Station, including escalators in the main station area and the Sixth Street entrance.

First Avenue Station

One escalator serving the outbound platform at First Avenue Station was replaced.
