Negley Station Improvement Project
The Negley Station Improvement Project transformed the East Busway station with improved access, new passenger amenities, enhanced safety features, and landscaping.
The project is part of PRT’s [Station Improvement Program], which invests in existing stations along the East and West Busways and Red, Blue and Silver light rail lines to improve the passenger experience, increase ridership and encourage equitable transit-oriented development.
Negley Station was identified as a high-priority location following a detailed evaluation of factors that contribute to transit-oriented development. A Station Area Plan developed in 2017 included input from community stakeholders and the public and identified opportunities to improve station access, increase transit use, create a more welcoming station environment and support future development.
Project Improvements
The completed project includes:
- Improved station visibility and access from South Negley Avenue, Pierce Street, Summerlea Street and Maryland Avenue.
- New station canopies, benches, waste receptacles and bike racks.
- Improved ADA accessibility, including a wider path with a reduced slope from South Negley Avenue.
- LED lighting upgrades and other safety improvements.
- A new crosswalk with concrete barriers.
- A passenger pick-up and drop-off area accessible from Summerlea Street.
- New landscaping and green infrastructure.
Landscaping
The project included a new landscape design that preserved many existing plants while adding new trees, shrubs and ornamental grasses throughout the station area.

The Negley Station Area Plan was developed in 2017 with input from stakeholders and the public.
