Sheetz & PRT Partner to Provide Free Rail Rides During Draft Weekend
Sheetz to cover fares on light rail and Monongahela Incline April 23–25
PITTSBURGH, PA – Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) and Sheetz today announced a first-of-its-kind partnership to provide free rides on PRT’s light rail system and the Monongahela Incline during Draft weekend, April 23–25.
As part of the initiative, Sheetz will cover all fares on the “T,” including the Red, Blue, and Silver lines, along with the Monongahela Incline—making it easier for fans and visitors to travel throughout the city during one of Pittsburgh’s largest events.
“Pittsburgh is about to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors, and we know getting around is top of mind for everyone,” said Ryan Sheetz, EVP of Marketing and Supply Chain for Sheetz. “We’ve been part of this community for more than 40 years, and we’re excited to support Pittsburgh! "This weekend is all about the fans and this great city that is bringing them together. By partnering with Pittsburgh Regional Transit to cover fares during Draft weekend, we’re helping make it easier for everyone to get around so they can focus on enjoying the experience."
With an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 visitors expected, the partnership aims to simplify travel, reduce congestion, and improve access to key destinations, including the North Shore. Free rides will be available Thursday, April 23 through Saturday, April 25 across all rail services and the Monongahela Incline.
“Today’s announcement shows what’s possible when the private sector supports public infrastructure in a meaningful way,” said County Executive Sara Innamorato. “Offering free fares makes public transit an even more accessible option for everyone coming to the Draft.” PRT CEO Katharine Kelleman added, “Public transit will play a critical role in the success of the Draft, and we’re proud to partner with Sheetz to offer free rides directly to the heart of the event.”
Throughout the weekend, select trains will feature Sheetz-branded elements celebrating the city. The company will also host fan activations, including giveaways, mascot appearances, and social media engagement opportunities for riders. For route and schedule information, visit rideprt.org.
Riders can also follow PRT for real-time service updates and Sheetz on social media for activation details.
