Monongahela Incline to be Temporarily Closed for Maintenance

PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Regional Transit will conduct routine overnight maintenance at the Monongahela Incline following the end of regular service on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Maintenance crews will adjust one of the incline’s cable hitches, a critical component that connects the passenger cars to the operating and safety cables. Cable hitches are replaced periodically as part of ongoing safety and reliability upkeep.

The incline will remain temporarily out of service Wednesday morning, September 2, while the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry completes a required inspection before the incline can reopen.

Reopening is expected by noon Wednesday.

Shuttle buses will be available to accommodate riders during the service interruption.
