Fifth Avenue Intersections Closed During University Line Construction

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (June 4, 2026) - Two intersections along Fifth Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Uptown neighborhood will remain closed as construction continues on Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s University Line project.

The intersection of Fifth Avenue and Pride Street is closed around the clock while crews restore the roadway between both sides of Pride Street. Concrete will be poured next week, and the intersection is scheduled to reopen on Saturday, June 13.

The intersection of Fifth Avenue and Vine Street (across from Marion Street) is closed weekdays from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. While contractors perform trench restoration work.  Heavy equipment required for the work will occupy the roadway during construction hours. Work is expected to be completed and Vine Street reopened on Saturday, June 6.

About the University Line    

The University Line will deliver a modernized transit corridor featuring dedicated bus lanes on Fifth and Forbes avenues, improving reliability and travel times for riders. The project also includes a new two-way bike lane on Fifth Avenue, upgraded sidewalks and ADA-complaint curb ramps, improved traffic signals, and enhanced pedestrian safety features.

These improvements are part of Phase II of the University Line project, which will strengthen connections between Downtown, Uptown, and Oakland while improving the overall travel experience for riders, pedestrians, and cyclists.
