May 2026 Ridership Report

PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s weekday ridership grew more than 8% from May 2025 to May 2026 fueled by increases on several routes.

Average weekday ridership for May 2026 was 125,492 unlinked passenger trips across bus, rail, and the Monongahela Incline. Bus ridership for May 2026 was 113,615, a 9% increase from May 2025. Rail ridership for May 2026 was 11,450, a 1% increase from May 2025. Average weekday ridership on the Monongahela Incline for May 2026 was 427, a 30% decrease from May 2025.

Average Saturday ridership for May 2026 was 72,827 unlinked passenger trips across all modes. Saturday bus ridership for May 2026 was 63,597, a 7% increase from May 2025. Saturday rail ridership for May 2026 was 8,246, a 12% decrease from May 2025. Average Saturday ridership on the Monongahela Incline for May 2026 was 984, a 34% decrease from May 2025.

Average Sunday ridership for May 2026 was 54,801 unlinked passenger trips across all modes. Sunday bus ridership for May 2026 was 47,050, an 8% increase from May 2025. Sunday rail ridership for May 2026 was 7,170, a 17% increase from May 2025. Sunday ridership on the Monongahela Incline was 581, a 53% decrease from May 2025.

The bus routes with the strongest year over year growth by total number of trips were the 51-Carrick (665), P1-East Busway, (778), 54-North Side-Oakland-South Side (671), 61A-North Braddock (589), and 91-Butler Street (408).
