Bus Routes to Detour for City of Pittsburgh’s Reimagine Smithfield Project

Several Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus routes will be detoured starting September 21, when portions of Smithfield Street will be closed for the next two years as part of the City of Pittsburgh’s Reimagine Smithfield project.

Starting on September 21, outbound trips on the following bus routes will serve temporary stops along Wood Street at Sixth Avenue (Wood Street T Station), Fifth Avenue, and Third Avenue.

- 40-Mount Washington
- 41-Bower Hill
- 43-Bailey
- 44-Knoxville
- 48-Arlington
- 51-Carrick
- Y46-Elizabeth Flyer
- Y47-Curry Flyer
- Y49-Prospect Flyer

The P12-Holiday Flyer, P16-Penn Hills, and P67-Monroeville Flyer will also be detoured beginning September 21, via Sixth Avenue and Grant Street (matching the P68 routing), for two months before returning to regular service. The bus stops on Smithfield Street at Fifth Avenue and Grant Street opposite Oliver Street will be discontinued. Alternative stops will be established at Smithfield Bus Lane at Sixth Avenue and Grant Street at US Steel Stop B. These routes will then be required to detour again later in the project. Additional information will be announced as the work progresses.

Riders are encouraged to allow additional travel time throughout the duration of the project.
